Melbourne-Tasmania 2017 Part II

Continuing from Part I!

Took an evening flight into Hobart, and we reached at close to 8pm. Our plan to take Uber to our airbnb failed (no drivers T.T), so in the end we took a taxi instead. The taxi fare was super pricey (AUD55) for a 20-minute ride to Sandy Bay; but at least it brought us straight to our airbnb! Good that we had a very friendly driver who pointed out many places to us while on the taxi (even though the skies were already so dark). His descriptors of the places stuck on vaguely to our memory to help us navigate our way to some of those places in the next couple of days.

OTW to Hobart :)

Was extremely exhausted after all the luggage lugging up slope and up the apartment. Here's our really spacious room! Had a quick convo with our host, washed up, and that's all for the night.

DAY THREE

Woke up the next morning and saw this beautiful double rainbow right from our room's balcony :) Starting our first day in Hobart very well!!

Here's the cleared-up view from our airbnb balcony. A peaceful and mesmerising sight, with mount wellington in the picture - more on that later!

Walked to Jackman & McRoss for our first breakfast in Hobart. Very rustic looking cafe!

Here's our scrambled eggs wrapped in smoked salmon atop a danish pastry. Yum!

But the croissant and jam combination was unbeatable. My love for croissant never dies, triple extra brownie points when coupled with fresh jam.

After that straight down this Kelly Street steps,

& we have arrived at Salamanca Market bright and early on a Saturday morning!! How convenient.

It didn't take us too long to complete the whole stretch of booths lined up at Salamanca Market, checked out those events that they had nearby (some vintage car assembly was going on). So pretty soon later we found ourselves wandering off to the pier area.

After that, we decided to venture further towards the Tasmanian botanical gardens (somewhere the taxi driver pointed out to us). We walked to a cenotaph on our way to the gardens, and found a whole stretch of greenery and some people flying kites.

Then we headed towards botanical gardens after that, and we were bewildered by the stark contrast in comparison to the lush greenery...

The botanical garden somehow reminded us of savannah. :p oops.

But we could get a good view of the Tasman highway from the top of the botanical gardens. Made our way down and back towards Salamanca Market area to grab a bite before we collect our rental car in the afternoon (woooohooo!)

Chanced upon a rose garden on our way :')

Reminded us of Beauty and the Beast. HAHA.

Shared this huge chicken wrap for lunch before we went to collect our rental car from Budget!!!

Was served by an amazing lady (we don't know her name) who gave us a free upgrade to a SUV so we saved on getting GPS add-ons. She helped us even more at the end of our rental so we are deeply appreciative of her help till now :') But so yes, collected our car for the rest of our time in Tasmania yay! & huge thank you to R for driving us around for the 4 days in Tassie, it has been a truly memorable experience :)

Anyway, right after we collected our car, we made our way up to Mount Wellington. SO ADVENTUROUS. We did not even go around the city to familiarise with the car and went straight up a mountain. Thank goodness the drive up was relatively smooth and we got to our first look out in no time!

Guess what! We saw another rainbow at our first lookout :D So lucky of us.

Then we continued our way up to the peak! THE WIND WAS EXTREMELY STRONG. I was literally pushed by the wind to move in the direction it blows. We ran back into the car within 2 minutes.

Then we drove to another side of the mountain, where we hoped that the wind was more merciful. We braced ourselves and wrapped ourselves as much as we can with whatever that we had in that car. Then we got out of the car again. This time round, we knew we needed to run into the lookout area in the shortest time possible to prevent a freeze-up.

But yay! 1270m above sea level!!!

Spectacular mountainous view. I felt like we were levelled with the floating clouds. Oh did I mention that we saw another rainbow while up on Mount Wellington??

We dashed back into car after all that photo taking. I think maybe we spent a total of 5 minutes out in the wind altogether. HAHAHAHA.

Came back into the city after Mount Wellington & stopped over at a random beach to get some sun.

Spotted a huge dog, which subsequently came so close towards R and we had to run away because it was salivating so much. :p

Went for an early dinner that day! FISH FRENZY.

We thoroughly enjoyed the fish n chips (and free chips). We both super loved the calamari rings in particular. Such a fantastic way to end our day!!! :D

Headed slightly out of the city for our Day 2 in Tassie. More on that in another post! :)
