Still feeling the excitement of the trip so I thought it would be good to document our travel experiences while memories are still vivid :) Finally, a long-ish trip (10 days) ever since we started work!
DAY ONE
Took a night flight from SIN-MEL after work. We look all ready to sleep? But as usual sleep plans always get disrupted and distracted by in-flight movies, airplane food, and crying babies. Arrived at Melbourne the next morning and we were so amazed by how swiftly we got our luggages and clearances done all within 20 minutes or so. Came out from the airport, spotted some SkyBus and boarded it without much trouble after we flashed our pre-booked QR code. Off we head into Melbourne City!
Arrived at Southern Cross Station in about 45 minutes and tried to find our way to the right tram station. We got into an episode of losing our way but we eventually managed to get to our destination - R's sister's apartment!
Had a personalised welcome message from this bunch of kiddos hehe :D
After settling down for a bit, we boarded the free tram to Queen Victoria Market for lunch!
In desperate hunger I quickly suggested that we buy this wrap. Turned out decent because R requested to get it heated!
I salivate looking all these beautiful fruits and wonderful produce
After we filled our tummy with some more food at the market, we were off to our next destination, which was to Brighton Beach Huts! Took a train to Middle Brighton station.
Made our way to the Brighton beach. The strong winds that day gave us the chills. So much struggle going against the wind and having seawater splattering on us while we persevered to get to the beach huts. Was shocked by how cold Melbourne was from this Day-1 experience. But it turned out to be the only coldest day we felt in Melbourne in our entire trip, lucky or not!
Finally rewarded with the beauty and vibrancy of these beach huts lined along the beach!!
Ok after a series of photo-taking we quickly retreated from the beach and headed back hahaha.
Dinner treat from R's sister! Very good and fulfilling dinner at the grand trailer park. I loved the burger and onion rings :D
Walked around the city for a bit to aid digestion after dinner, and that's it for Day 1!
DAY TWO
Was really lucky to be greeted by multiple hot air balloons in the morning when we got up! & Plus points to the orangey awakening skies.
Manchester Press bagels for breakfast!!
I really liked the blueberry bagel whoop whoop.
After breakfast, we took a train to South Melbourne Market! It's quieter and much less touristy than QVM, so it gave us another experience of their local markets!
From South Melbourne Market, we walked our way towards the Royal Botanic Gardens. Long walks are always part and parcel of our travels :)
Stopped by Shrine of Remembrance to snap some photos along the way.
From the viewing gallery - I'm still amazed by the face of a man in the far centre building.
Then we went for a walk at the Botanic Gardens! Lush and expansive. Didn't manage to cover the whole garden due to time constraint - we had an evening flight to Hobart, Tasmania!!
Before we returned to the apartment to get our luggages, we went to the Mekong restaurant for lunch! Pho and my all-time favourite fresh rice paper rolls teehee.
Then back to the airport for our flight to Tasmania!!!
Will post about Tassie in the next post ^^
